Organizing Your Household
One of the most important parts of the day is when it ends. It can be key to making the next day go smoothly. The evening hours are good times to plan the next dayís schedule, and organize the start of the next day.
Every family member can help get organized for the next day by laying out clothes, getting book satchels, purses and briefcases ready to go and even setting the table for breakfast the next morning.
If you are serious about getting organized it is important to develop work routines for different parts of your day. Once youíve planned a routine, write it down, try it for a few days and then make necessary adjustments.
Another essential element of being organized is being able to locate items when you need them. Establish a place where keys and other things you use daily can be found quickly.
Housework is another area where improved organizational skills are beneficial. Plan a low-maintenance home, in which unnecessary things are eliminated and necessary things are stored properly. Work on one room at a time until you have it the way you want.
A master list is a time-saver for grocery shopping. When you have a list of the foods you typically buy, photocopy it and keep several where you can find them easily. If you shop mainly at one grocery store, organize the list by aisles in the store. This will help prevent back tracking.
Plan meals a week in advance and start making a list of ingredients youíll need to pick up on your next shopping trip. Buy as much as you can afford or store. Shopping monthly will cut down on time and impulse buying. If you cannot do that work towards shopping every two weeks.
Establish a home business center to keep track of bills and important papers. Develop a system of handling day-to-day papers and records such as a bill holder with pockets for unpaid and paid bills. A loose-leaf notebook with sections is another handy organizing tool for many housefold records. Donít let important papers pile up. File them regularly.
Getting organized does take effort but the benefits are decreased stress and more time for other activities in your life.
