Caring for Hardwood Floors
To properly care for a wood floor, it should be vacuumed and dust mopped as often as needed. For heavy traffic areas, vacuuming and dusting daily may be needed. Consider using rugs at entry points to catch dust and dirt before entering the room. Wipe up food and other spills immediately with a dry or slightly dampened towel and buff dry. When you do need to clean the floor, mop the floor with a small amount of water and vinegar or use a cleaner that has been specifically designed for hardwood floors. These cleaners can generally be purchased at grocery and variety stores. According to the National Oak Flooring Manufacturers Association damp mop only when the floor is dirty. If possible, towel dry the surface following the cleaning. To avoid scratching your wood floor, put plastic or fabric-faced glides under the legs of furniture.
