Who are county council members?

Elected and appointed representatives from all 114 Missouri counties who go on to serve on regional and state councils.

What do they do?

  • Shape local extension programming decisions based on community needs.
  • Implement extension activities and programming.
  • Evaluate program success and make recommendations.
  • Manage local extension finances.

Why are extension councils important?

  • MU Extension’s role is to make university research available to Missourians. Council members assist with that mission.
  • Council members understand local needs and can solve challenges with solutions from extension.

Five things to know about MU Extension

  1. Extension faculty are from 10 university programs and eight different colleges.
  2. Every year, 2.3 million Missourians turn to extension for practical solutions on a variety of topics.
  3. Extension offers programs in agriculture, 4-H, business development, continuing education, human environmental sciences and community development.
  4. Extension partners with University of Missouri campuses, Lincoln University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.
  5. Extension’s mission is to produce relevant, reliable and responsive educational strategies that enhance access to the resources of the university.
