Completing GED

QuestionDo you have a program for obtaining or studying for the GED in Missouri?

AnswerWhile we don't offer GED completion, you can complete a real high school diploma at any age through distance education courses from the University of Missouri High School. You can learn more about the program by calling 1-800-609-3727.

EdS and EdD degrees

QuestionCan the online EdS degree count toward a future EdD from MU?

AnswerCurrently we do not offer a PhD or EdD at the Center for the Advancement of Mental Health Practices in Schools, so it might be difficult to get some of your courses transferred into another area. One of the great things about our program -- the fact that it is so unique -- is also a detriment in this case. If you know which degree you would like to pursue for your EdD, you can check with that program to see which of our courses might transfer. But we can not guarantee that any of our courses will transfer into a different degree program.

Tax school

QuestionI am a CPA working primarily with farmers and farm related businesses. Does MU Extension offer continuing education in farm taxation?

AnswerMU Extension holds a Business/Farm Income Tax School every fall in locations around the state. It is specifically to assist CPAs or other tax preparers with completing farm related income tax returns. If you attend the full day of class, you are eligible for eight hours with the Missouri State Board of Accountancy and/or 8.4 hours of continuing legal education.

Business degrees online

QuestionI am interested in a business degree. Do you offer any online degree programs?

AnswerThe Center for Distance and Independent Study offers an online degree completion program. The degree that is earned is a bachelor's degree in general studies. The general studies degree is unique in the fact that a student's major is comprised of three component areas. A component is a series of courses grouped around a common theme. This means you can tailor a degree to fit your interests. CDIS does offer a component in business; however, the degree that you would earn is a bachelor's in general studies. I encourage you to visit their Web site or call them at 1-800-609-3727 for more information.

MU Direct offers a master's degree in business and marketing education (master of education in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in learning and instruction and a focus in business and marketing). This degree is designed for teachers with business and/or marketing certification that want to earn a master's degree, teachers with certification in another area that want to gain certification in business and marketing while earning a master's degree or entrepreneurs and business school graduates who want to learn the competencies needed to be a business or marketing teacher, while earning a master’s degree in education. You are welcome to visit the MU Direct Web site or call 1-800-545-2604 for more information.

Degrees for family

QuestionI am the 48-year-old mother of two sons, a 17- and a 13-year-old. I have an associate degree and want to complete my undergraduate degree. My older son, a high-school senior, wants to take dual enrollment classes and then transfer into his freshman or sophomore year at MU. He is homeschooled, has taken community college courses and has a 4.0 grade point average. What can Mizzou do for us? Where are all your locations? We want one close to home.

AnswerAlthough MU doesn’t offer many undergraduate courses off-campus, we have several distance-learning options that may be good fits for you and your sons. At MU's Center for Distance and Independent Study, you can find:

Feel free to contact the center at 1-800-609-3727 or cdis@missouri.edu if you have specific questions the Web site doesn’t answer.

Your older son can find out about transferring to MU and admissions information on the Web.
