Mental health practices in schools program requirements

Question

I teach children with special needs in Georgia. I have some questions about MU's mental health practices in schools program.

Will I be able to upgrade my current teaching certificate in interrelated special education from a T5 to a T6 after the completion of the EdSp degree?

What are the test scores requirement for admission in the program?

Does this program involve writing of a thesis?

And is there a final test or presentation?

AnswerI can't give you an answer on the upgrade of your certificate. I'm assuming our program will do that for you, as we have several students from Georgia, but you have to check with your state's certification body. We are not a special education degree program, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

To apply you must take the GRE. Generally, we are looking for scores in the average range, about 1000 quantitative plus verbal.

There is no thesis. The final test is a portfolio. To see what this involves, visit our Web site.

Online graduate degrees

Question

What type of graduate degrees does MU offer online and what is the cost of each course?

AnswerWe have more than 20 online degree options available at the master's level in the areas of education, journalism, nursing, health services management and health informatics. MU also has a master's in library science, which is offered through a combination of classroom and online course work.

Although it's not an online degree, MU's Truman School of Public Affairs offers courses for the master of public administration in Jefferson City, with each class meeting one night a week for four hours over nine weeks. Since you are at Fort Leonard Wood, that might be a good degree to consider depending on your background and interests. Their URL is www.truman.missouri.edu.

Are you interested in one of the subjects above? I'll be glad to provide you with more information or contact names. The fees vary by program, with some priced at the regular MU graduate tuition level of $254.30 per credit hour and a few priced higher because they are more expensive programs to offer. You can see a list of all our online master's programs by visiting mudirect.missouri.edu and clicking on "Online Degrees" under the "Degrees" heading in the main menu. Or call MU Direct at 800-545-2604 during working hours.

Obtaining an associates degree in criminal justice

Question

Do you offer online classes for criminal justice? If so, what is the cost and the number of credits required to secure this degree? I am 37 years of age and working full time. Online classes would fit into my schedule with working and raising a family.

AnswerUnfortunately, MU does not offer any criminal justice degrees, either in the classroom or online. But we do have a Law Enforcement Training Institute that offers a training academy and other courses, but all of that is noncredit. If you will contact them at 800-825-6505, they may be aware of schools that have online or evening degrees designed with adult learners in mind.

Once you earn your degree, you'll need to complete a basic training academy, and Mizzou's academy is considered one of the best in the state if you have the opportunity to come here to attend it.
