Editor's note
The following abstract describes a publication that is only available for purchase. A link to ordering information is on this page.
This 16-page publication is for anyone who needs information about federal regulations on labeling textile products, such as clothing, bedding, fabrics and awnings before those products are sold to the public. Federal regulations covering three labeling categories affect textile products: fiber content, country of origin, and care instruction. This publication details such things as: what products need labels; exempted products; who is responsible for labeling; record keeping; information required on labels; how to arrange the information on the label; where to place the labels; and the average life expectancy of many textile items. It also includes an illustrated section detailing how to write care instructions. The booklet includes a glossary of terms and a list of Federal Trade Commission publications that also may be of use. An application for a registered identification number is included as well as an illustrated guide to care symbols.
