Perennial broadleaf

Sorrel, red (Rumex acetosella)

Spotted spurgeRed sorrel

Red sorrelA perennial from rhizomes with distinctive arrowhead-shaped leaves and red flowers and stems. Leaves initially develop as a basal rosette, but some leaves occur on the flowering stem as well. Basal rosette leaves occur on petioles and are 1 to 3 inches long, without hair, and arrowhead-shaped because of two lobes that occur at the leaf base. Leaves that occur on the flowering stem are arranged alternately, are usually linear in outline (not arrowhead-shaped), and are without distinctive petioles. All leaves have a thin membranous sheath (ocrea) surrounding the stem at the point of the leaf petiole attachment.
