1998-99 Alpha Tau Board Officers

President's Message
by Jim Ollar, ESP President

The annual opportunity to recognize ESP colleagues and friends is one of the highlights of membership in this organization. Plan to attend the joint awards luncheon, Tuesday Oct.26, where ESP and each professional organization will recognize peers who light the way for all of us. Your ESP awards committee has been hard at work gathering nominations and dealing with the challenge of selecting the best among the best.

Also plan to attend the annual business meeting Tuesday morning where the state of ESP will be reviewed, new members initiated, new officers installed and most importantly friendships and acquaintances refreshed.

Speaking of new members, I know you will respond if a board member asks that you visit with a newly eligible colleague. All the studies indicate that the most effective method of attracting (and keeping) members is through personal contact so do not be surprised if you are asked to make contact with a close by colleague.

ESP will sponsor a "networking break" at annual conference by providing and serving Buck’s ice cream. Your Board and committee members will be "hands on" dipping fresh ice cream for all conference participants.

As noted in the "ESP Connection"(national newsletter) another ESP sponsored professional development opportunity occurs Dec. 2 with the national satellite downlink program "The Future Proof Leader". This program will feature Denis Waitley, internationally known author and speaker. The MO Alpha Tau Chapter will host downlink sites. Of course any of us can be on site at the downlink by attending the national ESP conference Dec.2-4 in Indianapolis, Ind. Additional information is available in the national newsletter and at the web page http://esp-nat.tamu.edu/

See you at annual conference, the annual business meeting and awards luncheon, Oct. 25 – 26.

Membership Renewal
by Mel Zielinski, Membership Chair

Avoid the rush at annual conference and renew your ESP membership now. Although ESP will have our traditional membership booth at annual conference, the limited time available for you to stop by the booth and re-up may prompt you to renew before the conference. Our membership fees remain the same as last year. Please send your check for $31 for ESP to our treasurer, Dr. Tom Henderson, 108 Whitten Hall, Columbia, MO 65211.

New Features Added to ESP Website
by Bob Schultheis, ESP Secretary

The Missouri Epsilon Sigma Phi website at http://outreach.missouri.edu/esp continues to undergo improvements. In the Members section, a listing of active members and ESP contact persons, sorted by campus location, is now online. Life Members are listed alphabetically by last name and include city and state of residence. Life Members with e-mail access are encouraged to forward their e-mail addresses to me at schultheisr@missouri.edu so they can be added to the website to make it easier for them to stay in touch with former coworkers.

In the Awards section, members will find a listing of past recipients of ESP awards, along with the current nomination forms in HTML and downloadable Word97 format. And be sure to check out the Minutes section for an update of ongoing work of your committees and officers.

Thanks to all who have provided suggestions for improving the website. Documents in Word97 format are preferred if you wish them added to the website.

The "Weekly News is being used to determine those that should be remembered with greeting cards. There will be some that I have not remembered with a card. Please accept my apology for this oversight. Therefore, notify me with a computer message where I should send a card.

The ESP Board felt that it is important to include the entire extension family in the recognition of life's changes. Cards will be sent to acknowledging births, deaths, serious illness, marriages and retirements upon notification.

Through the rememberance of life's changes of the entire extension family, we hope to maintain the attitude of concern for the personal lives of others that has always been provided by the membership of Epsilon Sigma Phi.
