Committee Reports
· Courtesy and Memorials – Barb Casady – Wilma Jean sent a report. If she isn’t at Galaxy we will need a volunteer for the memorial at Galaxy.
· Global Issues –Mary Leuci
o Thai group were in MO for 3 weeks. They arrived May 23rd. A number of our faculty members were involved in the programs. Have feedback from some host families. A delegation will go to Thailand in January 2010, about 14 people. About half the delegation is Extension faculty.
o How do we in Extension have a more meaningful partnership with the University of the Western Cape? Mary will be working with Dr. Ouart this next year on steps we could be taking. Ron Turner will be at Galaxy and might have input.
· Life Members –Tom Henderson
o John Parker is putting lots of time into the regional meetings. The fall meetings just finished up; in general they were well attended.
o There is a question about why Retirees don’t have the Extension Insider available to them as a web based newsletter. This newsletter is intended for current employees. There is supposed to be a new electronic newsletter for retirees.
·
Membership –
Barb Casady – information was sent out to those eligible. Two new members will
be recognized at the Galaxy conference.
· Nominations – Bev Maltsberger
o Two candidates for each office.
o President Elect - candidates Susan Tharp and Johanna Reed Adams.
o Treasurer – candidates Bob Schultheis and Karma Metzgar.
o
Should we
have multiple voting methods or just Survey Monkey? Mary Leuci thought maybe we
just use Survey Monkey. Historically we don’t have a lot of folks who vote by
paper. Bob thought with the timing involved Survey Monkey may be the only
viable option. This approach was approved.
·
Professional
Development –
Pat Snodgrass
– no programming planned. Would welcome suggestions for speakers that could be
brought in or funding for professional development activities.
· Public Issues – Sandy Stegall
o Legislative Day – March 2nd, would love to have 500 people there this year. With the tight budget it will be as important as ever to make sure our impact is felt. There will be an ISE during the day that day for Extension Faculty and Staff.
o The stakeholders relation committee are working on a number of things. One is a revised website – gathering resources that can be used for telling our stories. Program showcasing opportunities are being looked at – learning from others who have done a showcase.
· Recognition and Awards – Joe Koenen – 9 award applications were sent in. Much better than none last year. Folks were notified about Galaxy presentation.
Business
· Newsletter - Mary Anne it is in progress – if anyone has any articles please get them to her by Thursday morning. She thanked the chapter for sponsoring her trip to the National meeting.
· National committee report – Mark Stillwell – Emphasis on keeping enrollments up and information about the endowment. Had about 200 attendees at the national meeting. Received about $12,000 at conference for the scholarship endowment fund. Always looking at opportunities for recognizing excellence and presentation of awards. Next year’s meeting will be in Jackson Hole Wyoming. There are a number of scholarships to assist with attendance. There are 2 to 4 available administrator’s scholarships available. Mark’s role at the national level ends next fall. Applications for that role are due in December or January. The NC region is responsible for finding the 2nd Vice President for the national organization.
· Missouri Galaxy – Barb reported:
o Silent auction in Room E in Lakeview Lodge – all organizations can place items in the room. We receive the funds from whatever items we donate. Just bring them the first morning. Don’t hesitate to bring something.
o We do have a friend of Extension award this year. Daniel “Duke” McVey is the individual to be recognized. He will not be present at Galaxy. The presentation will be made at the opening lunch. His nephew Hugh will accept on his uncle’s behalf. This will allow us the chance to nominate him for the national Friend of Extension award. One of his letters of recommendation is from Gov. Nixon.
o Ice Cream Social in the foyer area near the fireplace. Mark will not be able to pick up the ice cream on Tuesday – he is going to try to pick it up Monday and take it down with him. Volunteers to serve – it is individual cups so it will be easier. May need to leave your workshop just a little early to be able to help. There will be aprons there. At the same time folks will be able to look at silent auction items. There will also be recognition of Parman Green as he was elected the national treasurer of the Ag association.
· Annual meeting – Barb reported: ESP meeting in the dining hall. Non-members can join us. Ways to streamline the agenda so that we can fit it all into an hour. Any reports folks can get to Bob by Thursday afternoon he will post on the website. To see what we normally post for the annual meeting, you can view in the archives on the website right now. Awards will be done at the top of the meeting so that we can be sure to recognize them appropriately. We will have initiation of new members whether that is one or two members. May need a volunteer to do the courtesy and memorial program if Wilma Jean is not there. We will do installation of the new officers. Mark will give a national update.
Meeting was adjourned at 11:09 a.m.
