Committee Reports:

Mary Leuci (Global): Needs 1-2 people interested in serving on committee; she is open to ideas.  We need to catalogue opportunities to be involved in global, international activities plus funding mechanisms for same.  Suggestion: Check national Website for ideas.

Sandra McKinnon (Membership): No report.

Mark Stillwell: (Past president/nominations): No report.

Sandy Stegall:  Reported on Legislative Day plans.  Everyone invited to register at UMEA Website for banquet and day’s activities.  An ISE for Extension faculty and staff was to be offered for the first time. Faculty and staff not required to take a day of vacation to attend, and travel paid.  Sen. Frank Barnitz is Extension’s Legislative Day honoree. (About 300 actually attended Legislative Day; 70 attended the ISE; 40 plus attended the banquet.)

JCEP report: Mark was selected as Central Region VP to national; Barb Casady was a scholarship winner, congrats to both.

Two topics discussed at JCEP:

1)      Technology – different uses and things coming in future.

Mark said Jerry Thomas from Ohio State is exploring use of new technologies to reach older and younger populations, including blogs, iPods, Icasting, streaming video, WIKIs, handheld gadgets to reach diverse audiences. Copies of handouts are available from Barb and Mark

2)      Discussion of 4 generations: Baby boomers, Gen X, Gen Ys, Matures.

In past, Extension employees might make a 30-year career of it, attitudes toward work and recreation are different now. Megan Martin gives a similar presentation, so we have a resource to draw on.  She presented at CM staff conference and did an excellent job. She could do an annual conference session.

During ESP meeting, organization took to heart the discussion on generations in planning for future of ESP.

While Barb and Mark were at ESP in San Diego, they met with a former Extension farm management specialist who is a retiree donor to MU Ext. Loan and Fellowship fund -- Donald Broermann. They went to dinner and had a great evening.  He turns 90 in April.  He was happy to reconnect with Extension.  Meeting will be in San Diego again next year.

Program Ideas from JCEP: (Bev)

Hold retiree meetings and ESP meetings at same time as annual conference.
Shall we do Tiger Stripe reception before dinner at annual conference this year?  4:30-5:30 is the business meeting that day.
Mary:  Do retirees stay for dinner?  Is it strange to have ice cream before dinner?
Bev:  Retirees don’t usually stay for meal; maybe we should start with ice cream?
Mary:  Yes or what’s happening at lunch?  Have dessert @ lunch?
Sandra:  Tiger Stripe is a branding thing for ESP; but not before dinner.  Light hors d oeuvres?
Bev:  Could have ice cream at different time … not necessarily first day.
Bev is on annual conference committee and will discuss these options.

Silent Auction @ annual conference for ESP (another idea). One state takes photos and puts on auction page attached to ESP page to preview items.
Sandra:  Don’t really need the income unless for a special project.
Mary: For what purpose?  Scholarship fund?  Gifts and endowment? Not just for regular budget.  Consensus was not to do an auction. Cathy Dothage is national president of home ec association; asked us to do Missouri reception.  They may do a silent auction.

Dates for Calendar:

PILD:  April 28-30 in D.C.
Galaxy:  Sept. 14-18 in Indianapolis; 4 members are planning to attend.
Bev proposed doing workshop on leadership and will gain $250 stipend to help with expenses. Hotel registrations open March 15; early-bird registration April 15-June 15.
MU Extension Annual Conference: Oct. 28-30 in Columbia at Stoney Creek
Award nominations due: Sept. 1
Hugh Keith Golf Tournament:  Usually in Sept./Oct. Tom Henderson and Jim Ollar head the committee; date not yet set.  Will include bike/walk activities. Bob: ESP can handle registration.

Member recruitment ideas for 2008?  Sandra did great job last year. Send ideas to Sandra.

Officer nominations: Mark chairs committee.

Other business:

Mark has served on national membership recruitment and retention committee; need new member as Mark will chair resource development and futuring committees.

Sandra:  Would consider it but should we offer opportunity to all ESP?  Any could apply.  One-page form to fill out online.  President of local chapter must sign off on it and also director of Extension.  April 1 deadline for application.  Could announce in Employee News (also info about Mark serving).  Barb: Submit to newsletter.

Barb:  ESP Newsletter will go out after this week; June 1 is deadline for next newsletter.

National provides funding for mini-grants.  If we have ideas for mini-grants for chapter to submit, let Bev know.  Received one grant in the past-- $1,000 to bring association chairs together before Galaxy conference several years ago (’06) and had visioning session for association for Dr. Ouart to address as he took over leadership for Extension.  One state hosted a retirement workshop; included people to become life members at retirement.  Application due Aug. 1.

Adjourned at 11:20 a.m.
