Minutes of the
Epsilon Sigma Phi
Annual Meeting
October 11, 2007
Windermere Conference Center, Roach, MO
The annual meeting of the Alpha Tau Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Phi was held Thursday, October 11 at Camp Windermere, Roach, Mo. The meeting was called to order at 8:40 a.m. by Mark Stillwell, president, who welcomed members and guests. Minutes from the previous meeting were accepted as posted on the Web.
Secretary’s Report – Members elected to approve the minutes as posted to the website without reading aloud.
Treasurer’s Report – Bob Schultheis reported that we currently have $7,885.33 in available operating funds ($587.75 in checking; $7,297.58 in money market; and $46 in outstanding checks.) Bob reported that an increased membership – 69 active members, which is up three from October 2006 – assists revenues.
Bud Reber moved the treasurer’s report be accepted. Eldon Cole seconded. Treasurer’s report was approved.
Committee Reports:
Nominations Committee:
Nancy Flood
reported that nominations and
elections took place in September via email and mail. The following slate was
accepted by acclamation:
President (2007-2008) – Beverly Maltsberger
Barb Casady – President Elect
Rhonda Gibler – Secretary
Bob Schultheis – Treasurer
Janet LaFon - Annalist
Mark Stillwell – Past President
Nancy led an installation ceremony for the new officers.
Recognition and Awards:
Joe Koenen indicated that applications were
received for four awards by the Sept. 1 deadline, and he thanked those who
submitted nominations.
Membership:
Sandra McKinnon reported that the South Central
Region made the largest jump in membership percentage (adding a total of 4
members) and was the first region to renew all memberships. Recruitment has
taken place via email. Dr. Michael Ouart, vice provost and director,
transferred his membership to Alpha Tau from Iowa State University.
Loan and Fellowship: Lisa Wallace’s printed report indicates that $6,520 has been given out in 2006-2007 from the fund to colleagues for professional development opportunities.
Life Member Committee: No report.
Professional Development: No report.
Global Issues: No report.
Public Issues: Sandy Stegall thanked Karisha Devlin and Amie Schleicher for their report of the 2007 Public Issues Leadership Development Conference in Washington, DC, the previous evening. MU Extension will again have a delegation at PILD, April 28-30, 2008, in DC, with representatives of each of the Extension associations plus one member from the State Extension Council, one member from a Regional Extension Council and members from administration attending. Legislative Day will be March 5, 2008, with a format similar to last year. The banquet honoring UM alums and an Extension supporter will take place the evening preceding on March 4 in Jefferson City.
75th Anniversary Committee: Mark thanked the committee for the fun way Annual Conference participants were involved in remembering faculty and administrators, both past and present, for their contributions to Extension and the state.
New Business:
Induction of New Members: Sandra McKinnon and Beverly Maltsberger inducted BJ Eavy, Maude Kelly, Parman Green and Tony DeLong as new members of the Alpha Tau Chapter. Also received by transfer was Dr. Michael Ouart.
President’s Remarks:
Mark Stillwell showed a PowerPoint
presentation with highlights from the ESP national meeting in Charleston,
September 10-14. About 250 colleagues from across the nation were in
attendance. Those attending from Missouri were Mark, Bev Maltsberger, Sandy
Stegall, Kathy Dothage, Mary Anne Patten and Rex Ricketts. An auction helped
raise more than $10,000 toward a goal of $500,000 for the ESP Endowment Fund.
Bev served on a panel highlighting efforts in Missouri in membership and
retention. Mark received the Chapter of Merit Award and Special Recognition for
Membership certificates in Charleston. Mark has been selected to serve on the
National Membership Recruitment and Retention Committee for 2008. He also plans
to run for the ESP NC Regional Director position. He thanked Sandra McKinnon
and her committee for their good efforts in the recruitment and retention
arenas.
The 2008 national Galaxy Conference will be September 15-20 in Indianapolis.
Concurrent session proposals are due February 29. JCEP will be February 20-22,
2008, in San Diego.
Newly elected President
Bev Maltsberger outlined several goals:
1) Promote ESP as a professional association for all employees.
2) Increase membership in our local ESP.
3) Increase number of Missouri participants in ESP’s national meeting.
Award Presentations: Joe Koenen presented ESP awards to the following:
Memorial: Wilma Jean Lower led the group in remembering 11 Extension colleagues who had passed away since the May 2007 meeting.
President Maltsberger inquired if there was other business; seeing none she declared the meeting adjourned.
