Health-care professionals: Solidify your value to your employer and patients by keeping up your continuing education units in medicine, nursing or other health professions topics.

Preventing suicides

Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults. What can you do to avoid such needless deaths? Suicide Prevention for Educational Professionals, a new online graduate course from MU’s Center for Distance and Independent Study, equips school personnel to recognize risks and take action before tragedy occurs.

Invest in yourself

One of the best investments you can make in difficult economic times is to go back to school. Finish your high school diploma — or your bachelor's or master's degree — with flexible online programs that were created with busy students in mind.

Sensible business learning

Take a noncredit distance-learning course to enhance your business skills, such as Introductory Spanish for Professionals, Human Resources and the Law, Labor and the Economic Environment or Machinery and Equipment Appraisal.

Master a new career

Already have a bachelor’s but considering a different professional path? MU offers several online master’s programs that are ideal for career changers because they accept students from a variety of undergraduate majors: personal financial planning, health management, health informatics, library science and learning systems design and development. Note that some programs may require limited classroom attendance either on the MU campus or in another Missouri city.

Safety never goes out of style

Some professions experience growth, even in a slow economy. According to U.S. Department of Labor projections, public safety is one of the sectors that will continue adding to the workforce in the coming decade.
