Geographic area

The St. Louis Metropolitan Statistical Area is composed of 8 counties in Missouri (Franklin, Jefferson, Lincoln, St. Charles, St. Louis, Warren, Washington and the City of St. Louis) and 8 counties in Illinois (Bond, Calhoun, Clinton, Jersey, Macoupin, Madison, Monroe and St. Clair).

For the first time, the 2000 Census included a question that identified grandparents responsible for their grandchildren. Here are the numbers by county and state for the 16-county area in Missouri and Illinois.
