Ways to Better Life for You, The Caregiver
-
Take a time out
if you are feeling overwhelmed. Step into another room and take
deep breaths.
-
Make time for
your friends.
-
Slow down. You
may actually get more done than if you hurried.
-
Set aside “worry
time,” and get your worrying done then. Write down problems
outside of worry time, then set it aside until it's time to
worry again.
-
It's o.k. to
laugh. In fact, find reasons to let out a good laugh.
-
Change
perspectives. Read the paper or talk about something other than
the person you are caring for.
-
Take action. If
a service or caregiver to your loved one isn't doing their job,
let them know. If you are confused, ask questions.
-
Avoid the
“what-ifs.” Focus on what is, not what isn't.
-
Take up a hobby
or craft, make time for it, and enjoy it!
-
Get spiritual
support. Go to a religious service, pray, visit a clergyman, or
just go to a spot you find spiritual, sit quietly and listen to
your soul.
