Overview
Eat Well, Be Well with Diabetes:

is a 4-session diabetes
self-care class with a strong focus on nutrition
-
provides practical information
and skills needed to manage diabetes and promote optimal
health
-
is for anyone who has diabetes
or pre-diabetes
-
will benefit spouses and other
family members of those with diabetes.
What to expect
As a participant in the class you will learn:
-
how to manage your blood sugar
to prevent short- and long-term diabetes complications
-
how to plan meals to better
manage blood sugar using carbohydrate counting and the Plate
Method
-
important aspects of diabetes
self-care, including eating properly, exercising and
maximizing your time during visits with health care
providers.
Class content
Classes are 2 hours long and feature:

hands-on
activities
-
a setting
that encourages discussion and sharing among participants
-
food tasting
of easy, healthful recipes
-
recipe cards
of sampled foods to take home.

Well with
Diabetes is designed to enhance,
not
replace, diabetes education
provided by qualified health professionals. This program does not provide individualized meal plans,
nutrition counseling, or medical advice for participants.
Fee
The course fee may vary, depending on
whether another organization co-sponsors the class with
University of Missouri Extension. Typically, the fee is
approximately $40 per person, with a reduced fee of $45 for two people
wanting to share materials to
cover food and notebook costs.
