Peach Grower’s Meeting

The University of Missouri Extension will be hosting our annual Peach Grower’s Meeting at the SEMO – Malden, Harry L. Crisp Bootheel Education Center in Malden.  The meeting will be on the evening of Thursday, February 19, 2009.

Dr. M. Elana Garcia will discuss results of the latest cultivar study from the University of Arkansas.  Dr. Garcia is an associate professor and extension horticulture specialist in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Arkansas.  Her career experience with the fruit industry will also be an asset in discussing nutritional needs.

With us to describe his approach for control of Japanese and June Beetle will be John Avery.  He will relate practical applications for use in orchards.  John Avery is an Agroforestry and Propagation Research Associate with the Missouri State Fruit Experiment Station.

A presentation on specialized peach growing will be given by Cody Bader, a local grower from Campbell, MO.  He has been working on a new application in peach development.

Due to some of the food concerns that have cropped up in specialty foods this year we will also highlight emergency responses to food issues.

The meeting will be held at the Bootheel Education Center, lacated at 700 North Douglass Street in Malden. We will be starting with registration and dinner at 5:00 p.m.  The program will begin at 6:00.
