Sarah Denkler 2009 WATERMELON GROWER'S MEETING On Friday, February 6, University of Missouri Extension is sponsoring our annual Watermelon Grower's Meeting starting at 9:00 A.M. at the American Legion Building in Kennett, MO. We will be hearing several presentations as well as talks from two keynote speakers. Dr. Benny Bruton, research plant pathologist with the USDA will be talking about the Identification and control of Gummy Stem Blight in watermelon vines and fruit. Dr. Wayne Fish, research chemist with the USDA will also be on hand to present “Watermelon: How it may one day reduce cancer, lower blood pressure, and fuel your car all at the same time.” For those of you who are interested in information on Nematode control, Andy Fordice of Dow AgScience will be on hand to discuss one option. This year will showcase a Round Table of local growers who will be on hand to share experiences and answer questions. This will be a great time to throughout concerns or ideas for all the growers in attendance. Updates in the 2009 spray guides will also be available.
