2008 GREENHOUSE MANAGEMENT SHORT COURSE

Short Course Information:
This year we are offering Part II of our short course on greenhouse management. Part II takes a more in-depth look at certain of the subjects covered in Part I (e.g. plant nutrition and pest control) and addresses the production of several greenhouse crops not covered in Part I. The instruction will be handled by University of Missouri personnel (faculty and staff), horticulture industry representatives and experienced growers. As in Part I, there will be ample opportunity for practical, “hands-on” learning. It is recommended but not required that participants would either have taken Part I or have significant greenhouse experience before taking Part II.
Since we want the instruction to be individualized, registration will be limited to the first 25 individuals to respond to this announcement. Reasonably-priced, comfortable housing will be available on the MU campus and very convenient to short course headquarters. Information concerning housing will be sent upon receipt of registration. Registration deadline is Friday, July 11, 2008.

(8:00 am - 8:00 pm) Hands-on: Monitoring water quality and plant nutrition

Diagnosis plant disorders
Greenhouse and garden tours
Wednesday, July 23 Hands-on: Plant propagation
(8:00 am - 5:00 pm) Hands-on: Greenhouse scouting/problem solving
Poinsettia production
Legal aspects of greenhouse management
Pesticide labels, safety, worker protection
