Professional background

David E. Hedrick is the Director of the University of Missouri Extension Fire and Rescue Training Institute (MU FRTI). The Institute’s mission is the delivery of fire and emergency service training throughout the state of Missouri. He joined the Institute as Director in January 2007.

Director Hedrick received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, and a Certified Public Manager degree from Louisiana State University’s Governmental Services Institute. He has been involved in fire and emergency services for over 32 years, beginning his career as a Firefighter/EMT, and has served as a volunteer fire chief. He is the former Director of Fire Service Training with the Tennessee Fire & Codes Academy.

During his career Director Hedrick has been the recipient of various fire and emergency service awards. In 2003 he received his designation as a Chief Fire Officer from the Commission on Professional Credentialing. He has been a speaker and lecturer at state and national fire service conferences. He is also a published author of various articles and materials related to the fire service and training.
