Century Farm applications
Next chance to apply February 2012
The 2011 Missouri Century Farm program applications will be available in early February and will be accepted through May 15. Century Farms are those owned by the same family for at least 100 consecutive years as of Dec. 31, 2011. The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings, and nephews or nieces, including through marriage or adoption. The present farm shall consist of no less than 40 aces of the original land and shall make a financial contribution to the overall farm income. Missouri Century Farm
Join 4-H
4-H accepts new members year round. 4-H prepares young people to be the leaders of today and tomorrow. Members attend camps, display their work at fairs, travel the world, host youth from other countries, attend conferences and much more. Clubs and activities are open to kids ages 5-18 and Clover Kids for children ages 5-7. Learn more about 4-H.

2012 Master Gardener Training Classes
The Northwest Missouri Region of University of Missouri Extension covers an area of fifteen counties. This year Master Gardener Training Classes will be offered at proposed communities including Bethany, Chillicothe, Plattsburg and St. Joseph. The training will be held on Thursday evening, beginning March 8 and run until May 24th. Classes will begin at 6 pm and the session will wrap up by 9 pm. The cost for these twelve sessions will be only $95.00 per person or $165.00 per couple. This fee will include one University of Missouri Extension Master Gardener Core Training Manual per person or couple, plus other handout material. Classes will include topics such as: Plant Growth & Development, Plant Diseases, Soils, Vegetables, Flowers, Turf, Insects, Home Fruit Production, Woody Ornamentals, Grow Native (landscaping with native plants), pesticide use and basic landscaping. Private Pesticide Applicators Training
Individuals needing to obtain or renew their Private Pesticide Applicator certification for the purchase of restricted use pesticides may come into the Daviess-Caldwell University of Missouri Extension office and watch a 2 to 3 hour training video. The training is free, except for $12 for the Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual, if you already have the manual, then you won't have to purchase another one. Family members can share one manual.
Private Pesticide Applicator certification is valid for 5 years, at which time the individual may renew their certification by attending another Private Pesticide Applicator Training session.
Caldwell/Daviess county extension programs
The Caldwell and Daviess county commissions have combined funding for extension to better serve the residents. The extension office is located in the Daviess County Courthouse, 102 N. Main, Gallatin. Reach the extension office at (660) 663-3232.
