4-H accepts new members year round. 4-H prepares young people to be the leaders of today and tomorrow. Members attend camps, display their work at fairs, travel the world, host youth from other countries, attend conferences and much more. Private Pesticide Applicators Training
Individuals needing to obtain or renew their Private Pesticide Applicator certification for the purchase of restricted use pesticides may come into the Daviess-Caldwell University of Missouri Extension office and watch a 2 to 3 hour training video. The training is free, except for $12 for the Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual, if you already have the manual, then you will need to bring it to the training. Family members can share one manual.
Private Pesticide Applicator certification is valid for 5 years, at which time the individual may renew their certification by attending another Private Pesticide Applicator Training session. If you already have an Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual, you must bring the manual with you to the training.
Private Pesticide Applicator training will not be available on Feb. 12 and 15, 2016, nor Feb 29th, March 1 and 4, 2016 at the Daviess-Caldwell Extension Center.
Missouri Century Farms
Applications for the 2016 Missouri Century Farms will be available in February 1, 2016. Application are available from approximately February 1 through May 15, 2016 from the MU Extension Office in your county or from University of Missouri-Century Farms, Extension Publications, 2800 Maguire Blvd, Room E1, Columbia, MO 65211. For applications received by May 1, a $65 fee covers the cost of a certificate, farm sign and booklet for approved applicants. If the application is received between May 1 and May 16, the cost is $75. Applications must be postmarked by May 16, 2016, to be considered.
Guidelines for 2016 program are: The same family must have owned the farm for 100 consecutive years or more as of Dec. 31, 2016. The line of ownership from the original settler or buyer may be through children, grandchildren, siblings and nephews or nieces, including through marriage or adoption. The present farm shall consist of no less than 40 acres of the original land and shall make a financial contribution to the overall farm income. For more information go to Missouri Century Farms.
