Marketing: Think Before You Spend!

Course Description:  This course is for small business owners, managers and marketing directors who are interested in enhancing their marketing efforts through market and customer research, better knowledge of their competitors, pricing strategies and promotional tactics to enhance sales.   The program has been redesigned to better meet the scheduling requirements of small business owners and managers.  This program consists of 2 separate seminars, each of three hours.  The first seminar addresses customer and market research, competitive analysis, and customer relations.  The second seminar focuses on pricing and promotional tactics.  Learning is driven by in-class discussions and some lecture.  Work sheets, county specific data sources and web-based resources are provided for the students use.  The topics build on each other, ultimately leading to the student to develop advertising and promotions that more effectively reach the customer.  

Learning Objectives:
- Conduct market research
- Identify and analyze the strengths of your competitors and identify your opportunities

- Understand your customers’ expectations for your products and service and determine how  well you are meeting their expectations.
-  Price your product or service to cover your costs and generate profit.
-  Determine how to let your customers know about your business

Time:  2 individual 3 hour seminars.  Seminars are one week apart. 

Course Material:  All materials are provided.  Materials include work sheets, research sources and specific Cole County data. 

Instructional Format:  Although there is some lecture, the majority of the learning takes place during discussions and student interaction.  Between the seminars, students will have the opportunity to use the work sheets and access on-line presentations.  Questions, comments and lesson learned are discussed during the first portion of the second seminar.

Both seminars start at 6 pm

August 24 – Customer and Market Knowledge, The Competition, Customer and Relationship Satisfaction
August 31 – Pricing, Promotions, and Advertising

Cost: $80 for both seminars.  Team discounts for multiple attendees from the same business are available.
