Guidelines for Parents

  • Talk with children about what they can and cannot do Online.
  • Be open and encourage them to come to you if they encounter problems.
  • Learn everything you can about the Internet.
  • Check out, blocking, filtering and ratings.

PARENTING TIPS

  • Keep computer in family area to monitor activity.
  • Regularly spend time online with child.
  • Teach child how to end uncomfortable or scary experience online, and tell trusted adult as soon as possible.
  • Discuss difference between advertising and educational or entertaining content.
  • Establish trust and understanding with child.
  • Teach child never to give personal information without your permission.
  • Establish rules for ordering products.
  • "Talk back" to Internet Service Providers and web page creators.
