Youth Training and Education
Debbie Davis, Youth Specialist Dale Hunsburger, Youth Program Associate
Clover Greetings! THANK YOU for your enthusiastic participation in our September events as we roll out the new year! We have had energetic 4-H council meetings getting ready for the new year and planning our fall recognition events. Dale and I were very pleased with the responses from our tri-county leader and officer trainings held in September. Your willingness to laugh, share and work together is so encouraging! At the Leader Meeting, your leaders identified these positive things about 4-H in their county: spending time with my children; great Learning tools for my children; teaching my children responsibility; lots of young members involved with older kids; many volunteers willing to provide their time & skills; 4-Hers gain leadership skills that they realize years later; providing a positive support system; partnerships-working together to achieve and reach common goals; and family fun. WOW! Your leaders have huge ‘Whys’ which sustains their commitment in working for our 4-H youth. I challenge each of you to answer this same question and would suggest reminding yourself often of your answer as you begin our new year: “Why do you choose 4-H?” Clover Salutations! Debbie

Changes made to 4-H Food Quality Assurance Policy University of Missouri Extension 4-H is making changes to its Food Quality Assurance Policy. In 2007, members showing swine are required to have a current card in either Youth Pork Quality Assurance or Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance. Swine project members should be prepared to present their card at Missouri State Fair swine check-in. Local requirements are available from the MU Extension office in Clinton or Daviess County. Starting in 2008, all 4-H members enrolled in food animal projects ― including beef, sheep, swine, dairy cattle, meat and dairy goats, rabbits and poultry ― must complete Missouri Show Me Quality Assurance certification to be considered a 4-H member in good standing.
