Medicaid At Issue

August 2005

This file is also available as a PDF

As recent Medicaid legislation is implemented over the course of the summer, many of us will be called upon to help families understand and cope with recipient cuts and services reductions in the Medicaid program.

This Poverty At Issue provides basic information about the Medicaid program, documents recent cuts to the program and shares the stories of two people who have lost their Medicaid coverage. Their names, Ronnie and Nina, are made-up names used to protect their privacy.

Information also is provided for those who wish to voice their opinions to the new Medicaid Reform Commission. Contact information is included for the Governor’s office, as well as instructions for identifying and contacting your own legislators.
Special thanks to Suzi McGarvey for doing research for this newsletter and to Ronnie and Nina for their willingness to share their personal perspectives.

I hope you find this information helpful.
