Make the Holidays Easier

There are little things which everyone can do to make the holidays easier. For those with recent deaths of loved ones try to:

  • Make new traditions - Start traditions that will allow you to enjoy the holiday and further the grieving process. Examples might be a special candle lit in memory of the family member missing this year. If you are doing something you would have done together, the candle can shine through an empty feeling bringing light and presence.
  • Be with people - It is always important to celebrate with someone, be able to share joy or tears, but particularly important after the loss of a loved one.
  • Remind yourself: You are not abnormal to feel like the holidays are really difficult at a time when someone you have loved is missing. Tell someone about your feelings.
