Personal Earnings & Benefits Statement
Now Automatically Sent

Sure, you know you can call the Social Security Administration’s toll free number (1-800-772-1213) or click on it’s web site (www.ssa.gov) to request a Personal Earnings and Benefit Estimate Statement (PEBES). But you never quite got around to doing it, right? Now you don’t have to. If you are between the ages of 40 and 47, you’ll get a statement in the mail over the next few months - automatically - estimating your future benefits. Workers over 47 should have already received a statement and, beginning in 2000, all workers 25 and older can expect to receive annual statements. What’s the point? To help you with retirement planning and to verify that your earnings record has been accurately recorded. Check it carefully and report any errors. One caveat: the estimate is based on current law. Various reform proposals would probably reduce benefits for workers who are now 55 or younger.
