Balancing Work and Family Life
Marjorie Shaevitz, author and director of the Institute of Family and Work Relationships in, outlines her tips to help anyone do a better job of balancing their work life and their family life.
1. Put yourself on the list of people you take care of. Setting aside time and energy to nurture yourself physically, emotionally and spiritually will pay major dividends in the long run.
2. Require that family treat each other with respect, courtesy and concern. To receive love, support and courtesy from the family, offer them the same when you interact with them.
3. Turn off the television. When it seems like you never have time in your life for important things, check to see how many hours s day are being stolen as you tune out the family in front of the TV.
4. Develop at least one passion. Devoting even 15 minutes a day can go a long way to taking the edge off stress and satisfying an essential personal need.
