Lower Your Stress Level

After a hectic 1997 from start to finish, I’ve been doing a lot of reading and thinking about keeping life simpler and more enjoyable. I was startled by a chapter in the book Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff...And It’s All Small Stuff by Richard Carlson, Ph.D.. He says we need to lower our tolerance to stress. "Our current level of stress will be exactly that of our tolerance to stress. We have it backwards in our society. We tend to look up to people who handle loads of stress," argues Dr. Carlson. Rather than stress management - think stress avoidance! Carlson suggests tuning into your rising stress level early - don’t wait until it gets out of hand. If your mind is racing, your schedule out of control, you’re feeling resentful, it’s time to slow down and lower your stress tolerance.
