Law of the Farm

Farming teaches us much about management. The key, though, is slowing down long enough to learn the lessons. Steven Covey, in his book First Things First talks about the law of the farm. Can you imagine "cramming" on the farm? Can you imagine forgetting to plant in the spring, goofing off all summer and then hitting it hard in the fall - tilling, planting, irrigating cultivating, and expecting to get a great harvest in 30 days? It doesn’t work in farming and as Covey points, out it doesn’t work anywhere. The ability to communicate in meaningful ways, to think analytically and creatively, to color outside the lines, to rise above outmoded practices and solve problems in newer and better ways cannot be short changed. It takes time and patience.
