Affluenza

Would you rather be shopping right now? Do you make only the minimum monthly payment on your credit cards? You may be suffering from affluenza.

Affluenza is defined as the bloated, sluggish and unfulfilled feeling that results from one’s efforts to keep up with the Joneses. Affluenza is an epidemic of stress, overwork, shopping and indebtedness caused by the dogged pursuit of the American Dream. This illness can have lasting, harmful effects, and cannot be cured by buying something just because its on sale.

For relief of this purse-pilfering disease:

Before you buy, ask yourself: Do I need it? Could I borrow it? How many hours will I have to work to pay for it?

Become an advertising critic.

Volunteer for a school or community group.

Make a budget - know how much you are earning and spending.

Go hiking, play ball with the kids, bake bread, write a letter, or give your loved one a hug.
