Variety and Contrast Lead to Richer Living

True success in life is possible only if you’ve made the business of living a rich and happy experience. Sir John Templeton points out, "All sunshine makes a desert. If it weren’t for variety and contrasting emotions in our lives, we would never improve ourselves. Problems will always exist, the key is to recognize that every problem has a solution." Actor Sidney Portier was raised in poverty in the Bahamas. At age 16 he moved to New York with $3 in his pocket. He responded to an ad for an actor but was interrupted during his audition when he couldn’t read all the words in the script. This rejection made him more determined. He got a job as a dishwasher, bought a radio and learned to enunciate by listening to the voices being broadcast. He turned adversity into advantage.
