Lincoln Had Perseverance

True success in life is possible only if you’ve made the business of living a rich and happy experience. Sir John Templeton points out, "perseverance is the difference between success and defeat. There is no substitute for tenacity." Abraham Lincoln faced a series of failures and obstacles before he became president and brought the Civil War to an end: His mother and sister both died when he was young; he suffered from depression in his early 30's; he suffered the death of two young sons; he failed as a businessman; he was defeated for congressional nominations in 1843 & 44; he was defeated for Senate nominations in 1855 & 59; he was defeated for nomination as a vice presidential candidate in 1856. Yet Lincoln persevered and is remembered for all his successes, not his failures.
