Manage Daily Stress

What causes stress in your life? Some stress is caused by events and circumstances, but most of us feel stressed from an accumulation of small aggravations and frustrations.

If the source of our stress is within our control, we can take action to change the situation. If it's beyond our control, we can learn to accept it or find ways to minimize the symptoms.

Try taking a problem-solving approach. Has this happened to me before? What's the worst that can happen? What are my options?

Keep things in perspective. Do you create unneccessary stress?

Organize, plan, reorganize. Not being organized is too much work.

Pay attention to signs of overload and do something to correct it.

Talk to yourself - say whatever helps you calm down.

Don't try to be perfect.

"Coping skills that help us manage daily stresses," Work and Family Life, December 1996, p. 1.
