How do your holiday preparations and celebrations compare to the average consumer this past year? The average adult in the U.S. expects to pay $487 on gifts this holiday season. Forty-five percent of holiday shoppers expect to exceed their budget. The average family's holiday toy shopping per child last year was $195. About 71% of holiday shoppers bought their gifts primarily with cash, while 17% purchased primarily on credit. One in five shoppers over age 60 had their shopping completed shortly after Thanksgiving. One in ten shoppers under age 30 completed their shopping early in the season. Fifty eight percent of holiday shoppers admitted to shopping at the last minute. Average weight gain from Thanksgiving through New Year's day was five to seven pounds.
