| What is Consumer and Family Economics?
Consumer and Family Economics (CFE) Extension programs target the
financial concerns and issues facing Missouri consumers. CFE
programs focus on helping families master control of their financial
resources, increase their skill in financial decision making , and expand
their capacity to set and achieve financial goals.
Consumer and Family Economics Extension
regional specialists provide leadership on a number of statewide
educational programs:
- Poverty Simulations, a collaborative effort with ROWEL (Reform
Organization of Welfare) to give participants a brief experience of
life in the state of poverty
- Earned Income Credit (EIC) Campaign, an
educational program to inform eligible Missourians about the EIC
- High School Financial Planning Program,
a curriculum on basic financial management directed toward high school
juniors and seniors
- Money Action Plans (MAP) -- Modules on
spending plans, record keeping, credit, communication, insurance,
shopping and financial counseling.
- Building Strong Families -- Building Strong Families has a number of
lessons, including identifying strengths, communicating, managing
stress, child self-care, food and fitness, working, setting goals,
parenting, spending, balancing work and family, being an alert
consumer, healthy house and self-esteem.
- Poverty at Issue, a newsletter for
individuals concerned about poverty in Missouri
Regional Consumer and Family Economics
specialists develop customized educational programs for a variety of
specific audiences:
- Teen parents
- Dual-earner families
- Community coalitions
- Probation and parole clients
- Human resource councils
- Missouri Association for Family
and Community Education
- EFNEP (Expanded Food and
Nutrition Education Program) paraprofessionals
- Displaced workers
- Parents of children/adolescents

This web site was established in 1997 with the leadership of Kate
Akers, Sandra McKinnon and Cynthia Crawford to expand the use of one
minute radio cuts Crawford and McKinnon recorded for these radio stations:
