Northwest Missouri
Northwest is focusing primarily on
agri-business, agri-tourism and tourism. They are building a current
listing of all banker/ag lenders in their five counties. They have
completed a formal community survey (with a 25% return rate) and are working
with several groups on the bio-diesel plant.
Review their 2007
Action Plan.
April, 2007 Update:
- Jerry Baker and Frank Veeman met with the
Nodaway economic development director, the assistant director and the
tourism director to update them and invite them to participate with the
project.
- A formalized inventory assessment of the
tourism attractions has been completed in the five county area.
- Jerry Baker attended the Worth County R-II
School District FBLA installation of officers luncheon. All high
school business education instructors in the five county region were
provided the Missouri Small Business Start-up Kit CD. This was well
received as timely and helpful to their programs.
- Worth County Extension Council is sponsoring
a writing contest for sixth grade students in Worth County. The
students will write about "What Memorial Day Means to Me". The purpose
of this activity is to begin a planned process to help students identify key
elements of their home community that will have a lifelong influence on
their remembering their hometown. More activities will follow to
support the effort to tie into the hometown community concept.
- The Community Betterment Club of Maitland
surveyed the community asking what businesses would be welcomed and
supported in the community. After the final retail business closed in
the community, a training session promoting entrepreneurship was completed
with 11 participants and has lead to multiple business start-up interests.
