Chariton County

Chariton has held several events for youth including "Be All That You Can Dream" on February 15, 2006 and a summer school enhancement overnight encampment for junior high and high school students on June 6 and 7, 2006.  Both events were very successful.

A three day teacher's workshop was held June 21-23, 2006 with seven instructors from five districts attending.  Discussion was generated on what materials were needed and helpful in the classroom to integrate entrepreneurship concepts.  A list of reference materials was developed, prioritized and materials were distributed to the schools.  Review the 2007 Action Plan.

They currently have one VISTA position.

April, 2007 Update:

• The eighth grade forum was well attended by 88 students and based on evaluations was a huge success.
• Chariton County Leadership Academy is well underway having completed five sessions.
• Entrepreneur Leaders of Tomorrow (ELOT) is busy doing fieldtrips.  They visited an ethanol plant on March 31st.
• A three-day teacher's workshop was held in June, 2006 with seven instructors from five districts attending.  These highly successful events will be repeated this June.
• We are working on the sustainability plan.
• Seven youth businesses have been started as a result of the project.
• A revolving loan fund is being created to foster additional business development.
