resources
Communities are dependent on access to abundant sources of
safe water for their economic, environmental, and human health and
well-being. Changes in environmental quality or land use have
direct or indirect consequences for a community's water resources.
The Water Quality program responds to environmental issues and concerns
about the safety of a community's water resources. Grassroots Watershed
Management, for instance, is a CD program that empowers local communities
with an understanding of the importance of protecting their water
resources. A CD specialist can assist your community with defining
the need for water quality planning and/or assessment, and put people
in touch with Water Quality Extension staff to begin the process.

food safety
Cases of anthrax in the
U.S. following September 11, 2001, as well as outbreaks of mad cow disease and
foot-and-mouth disease in Europe, have raised public concern over
the potential for terrorism targeting the country's food supply.
A community development specialist can assist your community with
linking to University resources that deal with food safety and security,
and local food system development.
