Position Summary

University of Missouri Extension, an academic division of University of Missouri-Columbia, is dedicated to improving people's lives, communities and the economy by providing relevant, responsive, and reliable research-based community education.  MU Extension faculty and staff develop and deliver research-based educational programs to enhance the success and well-being of individuals and families, business and public-sector organizations throughout Missouri.

This is a 12-month academic position.  Appointment may be made as non tenure track ranked (NTT), depending on University approval of the academic credentials and qualifications of the successful candidate. 

Working collaboratively with a team of extension professionals and volunteers, the Agronomy Specialist will be responsible for giving programmatic leadership to the agronomy programs. 

May be assigned county program director (CPD) responsibilities including carrying out programming, resource management and extension council relations’ duties.  Provide leadership to the development, implementation, and evaluation of extension programs in the county plan of work through involving faculty, clientele, extension councils, advisory committees, community agencies, organizations and other citizens.  Represent the University of Missouri to county extension councils, county governments and other agencies in determining fiscal needs and securing and managing resources to carry out county extension programs.  In addition, partner with county extension councils to develop and implement the county plan and administer county council resources.  Responsible for development of effective leadership skills in order for councils to be advocates for extension programs. 

All regional specialist positions are responsible for developing and cultivating external funding sources to enhance local programs; remain up to date professionally on matters related to their programming specialty; travel using own vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided) and work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to fulfill assigned responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned master’s degree in agronomy and/or soil science.  Successful candidates should have college level courses in crop and forage production, plant pathology, entomology, weed science, soil science, and horticulture.  Production agriculture experience and/or college level coursework related to livestock production, horticulture, and agricultural economics is desirable.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE in designing, conducting and evaluating educational programs, and applying research-based knowledge in subject matter areas related to Midwest crop and forage production including but not limited to best management practices, pest management (i.e. insect, weeds and disease), soil management, IPM, pesticide certification, cover crops, and water quality is desired.

Ability to work with colleagues in a multidisciplinary, issue-based approach to program design and delivery to impact change in one or more of the following priority areas: (1) enhancing economic viability, (2) building strong individuals, families and communities, and (3) creating and sustaining a healthy environment.

Ability to manage time and resources, and to work with minimum supervision in a variety of settings.
 

Salary/Benefits

$36,500-46,500 and additional compensation for doctorate degree ($5,000) and/or achievement of NTT rank appointment of Associate Extension Professional ($3,000) or Extension Professional ($4,000)
