Specialist
Position
Description
LOCATION: Hillsboro, Missouri, and serves the following counties: Jefferson, Washington, St. Francois and Ste Genevieve in the East Central Region.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: The Family Financial Education Specialist provides educational programs related to financial literacy, money management, asset development, debt management and consumer issues with the following responsibilities:
Program Development and Delivery
· Plan, implement, and evaluate educational programs in family financial education content areas (financial literacy, money management, asset development, debt management and consumer issues) to Missouri citizens that result in individual, family and community impacts. A majority of programs will be from a pre-approved program list.
· Use skills to ensure audience satisfaction and learning, group facilitation capabilities, public speaking abilities, knowledge of adult teaching/learning processes, distance learning techniques, Internet use, and meeting coordination abilities.
· Disseminate information to groups and individuals about human development and family studies content areas that results in individual, family, and community impact.
· Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusiveness in the work environment and in educational programming to meet the needs of all potential stakeholders and clients, including, but not limited to, racial/ethnic minorities, underserved audiences, women and people with disabilities.
Relationships and Communication
· Develop coalitions and foster multi-disciplinary teamwork among colleagues, individuals, and organizations to enhance the learning environment within the community and state.
· Work effectively within the higher education environment, with the general population, partner organizations, culturally diverse audiences and county extension councils.
· Communicate and work effectively with campus-based state specialists in developing, implementing, and evaluating state-wide programs.
· Communicate and promote the value and measurable impacts of extension education to key stakeholders, councils and targeted decision makers.
· Ability to pursue external funding sources to enhance local programs.
· Demonstrated ability in written and oral communication, organizational skills, interpersonal and public relations.
Professional Expectations
· Remain up to date professionally on matters related to family financial management programming; engage in professional development; identify local program needs; and understand demographic trends.
· In cooperation with regional director, program director, and colleagues, develop and execute an annual work plan aligned with local, regional, and state objectives of the broader Human Environmental Sciences program.
· Ability to travel and to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, to fulfill assigned responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
· An earned master's degree in personal financial planning, consumer & family economics, business, economics, finance or a related area with appropriate coursework.
· Professional experience in applying and transferring research-based knowledge in financial literacy, money management, asset development, debt management and consumer issues. Experience with adult education is preferred.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The family financial education specialist is accountable to the regional director and receives programmatic leadership from the Human Environmental Sciences program director.
