Director, BRIDG (Associate State Specialist)
Position Description

Summary

MU Extension Business Development offers a variety of state-wide educational programs to assist clients with start-up and existing businesses by providing business counseling, training and on-line resources. In addition, Business Development works with federal, state and local government entities; assist dislocated workers to obtain occupational and financial information; and helps manufacturers find and use recycled materials for use in producing goods.

The Director of Business Research and Development Group (BRIDG) provides leadership for the primary research and program evaluation aspects of the University of Missouri Extension’s Business Development Programs by formulating, coordinating, implementing, reporting, and disseminating the primary research and program evaluation studies.

Characteristic Duties

Design, develop and coordinate the primary research and program evaluation activities of BRIDG; formulate and implement strategic and operational plans to meet BRIDG goals and objectives. 

Interpret research and evaluation results to program managers, establishing the link between research and how the research changes and informs the nature of products and services delivered by business counselors and specialists. 

Manage daily operations of the program.  Tasks for this position include: development and administration of new projects; supervising, hiring, training and evaluating administrative support personnel. 

Conduct and direct primary research and program evaluation assignments. 

Design and develop information systems required to support primary research and program evaluation studies, policy analysis, and management decision-making. 

Identify, recruit, and coordinate project teams within the University and by using outside contractors. 

Prepare and disseminate written reports of research activities for publication and to record activities. 

Maintain correspondence with various individuals, firms, institutions and government agencies in order to acquire and disseminate information pertaining to survey findings, trends and projections, and related information. 

Manage budgeting and financial reporting.

Monitor and report on entrepreneurship and small business research literature. 

Obtain IRB approval for all business development programs, contracts and grants. 

Coordinate preparation and dissemination of BRIDG reports. 

Provide leadership and general supervision of research and support staff. 

Monitor the integrity of research data files. 

Represent university, as needed, with external agencies and peer institutions. 

Conduct all activities in accordance with the Civil Rights Acts, Title IX, Rehabilitation, Americans with Disabilities Act and local, state and region affirmative action plans. 

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of MU Extension.  

Accountability 

Supervision is received from the University of Missouri Extension Business Development Program Director. 

Leadership Responsibilities 

Administrative supervision is exercised over external contractors and support staff. 

Minimum Qualifications 

Master’s degree (PhD preferred) from an accredited university and five years relevant research and management experience, or combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.  

Ideal candidate will have program evaluation experiences and a Master’s or Ph.D. in social and behavioral sciences, business, entrepreneurship, engineering, education, public administration or equivalent. In addition, experience with cooperative extension services and an active member of the American Evaluation Association are highly desirable. 

Hiring Salary

Director of Business Research & Information Development is a full-time, benefit-eligible, academic appointment with the University of Missouri.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with professional qualification.
