The
Golden Age Passport
The
federal government has established the Golden Age, Golden Eagle,
and Golden Access Passports that cover entrance fees
at national parks,
monuments, historic sites, recreation areas, and national wildlife
refuges that charge fees.
This is very convenient when traveling to several areas
that charge an entrance fee.
The
$10.00 Golden
Age Passport
is a lifetime entrance pass for seniors
who are 62 or older.
It also
provides a 50 percent discount on federal use fees charged for
facilities and services such as camping, boat launching, parking,
etc.
The
Golden Access Passport is a free lifetime entrance
pass for those individuals who have been medically
determined to be blind or permanently disabled
and as a result, are eligible to receive benefits under
federal law. It also provides a 50 percent discount on federal use
fees.
The
$65.00 Golden Eagle Passport is an annual entrance pass
for everyone. It
is valid for a 12-month period starting with the date of purchase. The passport does not cover or reduce use fees, such as fees
for camping, hiking, swimming, parking, boat launching, or cave
tours. It is valid
for entrance fees only.

Zelma
is 88 years of age, and has lived in Missouri all her life.
She has two married daughters, five grandchildren, and five
great-grandchildren.
She was married 50 ½ years, and has been a widow almost 12
years.
When
asked what advice would she give to others for successfully aging,
Zelma said, “Just keep busy.
Do something that you like to do and don’t be thinking
about your health problems.
Don’t be fretting about how old you are.
I think that’s a stupid thing to worry about.
I’m 88 years old, and I have good health.
I just keep well, and keep busy, and I do all right.”
When
asked what makes her ‘feel bad’, Zelma said,
“Nothing—except, of course, that there is never enough time to
do all the things I want to do.”

Next
time you are washing your hands and complain because the water
temperature isn’t how you like it, think about how things used
to be in the 1500’s.
Most
people got married in June because they took their yearly
bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June.
However,
they were starting to smell so brides carried a bouquet of
flowers to hide the body odor.
Baths
consisted of a big tub filled with hot water.
The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean
water…then all the sons and other men…then the women…finally
the children…last of all the babies.
By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose
someone in it. Hence,
the saying, “Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”

“Our
deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It
is our light not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous,
talented, and fabulous?’ Actually,
who are you NOT to be?
Your
playing small doesn’t serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that others
won’t feel insecure around you.
We are born to manifest the glory that is within us.
It is in everyone. And
as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others
permission to do the same.
As
we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically
liberates others.”
Marianne Williamson,
“Return to Love”, quoted by Nelson Mandela
