Description:
Gardening is the most popular hobby in the U.S. There is a growing awareness both among the general public and health professionals of the importance of plants to the physical and psychological well being of people. In addition to aesthetically improving the environment around the home, planting of turf, trees, shrubs, perennials and flowers reduces energy costs, provides exercise and a sense of accomplishment and adds value to the home. Fresh fruits and vegetables produced in home gardens are a healthy supplement to the diets of many Missourians. Gardening also fulfils a need on the part of people several generations removed from the farm to work with the soil.
