The University of Missouri’s Phelps County Extension will host a basic beekeeping class. The class will include a short history of beekeeping; basics about bees; the parts of a bee hive, a general annual calendar of basic beekeeping responsibilities and time for questions. The class will be taught by Phelps County Advanced Master Gardener Charlotte Wiggins, Mid-Missouri Beekeepers Association President Jerry Hendershot, and Meramec Valley Beekeepers Association President Sam Elia. The purpose of this class is to help those interested in beekeeping become familiar with bees, beekeeping equipment and the basics of what it takes to be a successful beekeeper. "Beginning beekeepers can also check out beekeeping books available through Rolla's Public Library," said Charlotte Wiggins. "Reading books is a great way to become familiar with beekeeping terminology and basic practices."
