    The Southeast Youth Coalition- Policy, Systems & Environmental (PSE) Changes (Session 7 of 7)

    Description:

    Community needs assessments may identify a need that requires a policy, system or environmental (PSE) change to be made to impact the larger community rather than individual educational efforts. PSE strategies is a global term for a number of strategies that can be implemented all with the long term goal of improving the overall health of the community.

    The Southeast Youth Coalition(SEYC or the Coalition) formed in April 2018 to address behavior health issues affecting the youth of the Southeast community of Kansas City Missouri. Specifically,SEYC focuses on Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drug use and abuse, Violence, and Suicide. The Coalition defines youth generally between the ages of 13-24. Mission Statement and Guiding Values. a.Mission.SEYC facilitates positive youth health outcomes by empowering families and communities through education, community connectedness,and behavioral health services. b.Guiding Values.?Education -Promoting learning and information sharing?Connectedness -Bringing youth and communities together to establish real communication and access?Collaboration -Working with youth and others to produce excellence?Openness-Welcoming Everyone in our community without discrimination?Integrity -Being real and having strong moral principles?Leadership -Helping young people build the judgement, confidence, and responsibility necessary to be effective leaders. c.General Strategies.?Identify Youth ages 13-24 in Southeast Kansas City And invite them to participate in SEYC activities?Develop and support innovative community programming?Educate the public about youth and family issues?Serve as an access hub for state and local health and wellness resources?Maintain funding for programs and services that promote positive outcomes in the Southeast

    Session topic:

    Monthly FULL Coalition Meetings takes place on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 3-4pm follwed by a Youth program 4-7 pm to support the coalition mission.
