Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions at Sachs Library (Session 1 of 6)

Description:

Don’t let a chronic disease diagnosis stop you from living your best life! This program developed and evaluated by Stanford University, is helpful for all chronic conditions – not just a single disease. Some of the topics include: •Managing frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation •Appropriate exercise including strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance •Appropriate use of medications •Healthy eating •Goal-setting and problem solving Participants meet for 21/2 hours a week for 6 weeks. Participants that complete the class report improvement in exercise and the ability to participate in one’s own care, improved health status in fatigue, shortness of breath, pain, social activity limitations, depression and health distress. Fewer outpatient visits, fewer emergency room visits, and shorter lengths of hospital stay have been reported. Participants will receive the book “Living A Healthy Life with Chronic Disease”. The program is sponsored by St. Louis Regional Arthritis Center.
