Session topic:
Begin developing personal action plan for preventing falls. Identify personal obstacles to exercise. Learn balance exercises to prevent falls. Idnetify ways to support others in class regarding fall prevention.

The "Stay Strong, Stay Healthy" program was developed by Tufts University and is designed to help middle-aged and older adults improve strength, flexibility, and balance. According to research conducted by Tufts, strength training improves bone density, can help reduce falls, improves arthritis symptoms, and increases flexibility in middle-aged and older adults and can lead to a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Session topic:
Participants will view a powerpoint covering the health benefits of strength training. Senior fitness pre-assessments will be conducted on all participants. There will also be a review of the exercises.

Course One can be taken as non-credit (earning 3.5 CEUs) for $500; or Course One can be taken for undergraduate credit earning 3 credit hours at $982.20; or, Course One can be taken for graduate credit earning 3 credit hours at $1,183.50. There are additional requirements & assignments for those who take the course for academic credit. In addition to the registration fee, there are food and lodging costs for participants the week of the course. International participants coming from abroad may need to apply for a scholar's visa, which costs $150 for processing the necessary documentation.
