Veterans Enterprise Forum

Description:

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) St. Louis District Office, the Veterans Business Resource Center (VBRC), and the Small Business & Technology Development Center will present a one-day entrepreneurial education program, Boots to Business Reboot, to veterans and their spouses. Veterans have the character, discipline and skills needed to succeed as small business owners and entrepreneurs. Wondering what it takes and how you can prepare? Enroll in Boots to Business Reboot. Boots to Business Reboot is a two-step training program that provides participants an overview of business ownership as a career vocation, an outline and knowledge on the components of a business plan, a practical exercise in opportunity recognition, and an introduction to available public and private sector resources. Step one is the Introduction to Entrepreneurship course eligible to Veterans of all eras, service members (including members of the National Guard and Reserve) and their spouses. This course is instructed by SBA and its partners, who are skilled business advisors. Step two is the follow-on Foundations of Entrepreneurship course instructed by a consortium of professors and skilled business advisors from the SBA Network.

Quality for Keeps: Home Food Preservation Made Easy (Session 2 of 4)

This is a food preservation and canning series with four classes with topics that include water bath canning, pressure canning, freezing, and dehydrating fresh produce. Participants will learn methods and recipes that have been tested for both safety and high quality. This class provides the hands-on experience and a thorough guidebook that will allow participants to walk away with not only their own canned items, but also the confidence to preserve food at home.

Diabetes Self-Management (Session 5 of 6)

Description:

This course is designed for help people who have diabetes or individuals who care for someone who has diabetes to become better self-managers of their condition. This program will consist of six sessions each lasting 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Participants will learn to plan healthful meals with balanced carbohydrates, learn more about the benefits of physical activity, discuss blood sugar highs and lows, and how to communicate more effectively with health professionals. Participants will receive a free book and weekly prizes!
