Emerging Nutrition, Health & Physical Activity Programs (Session 6 of 10)

In this class geared toward senior nutrition, participants will learn how nutrient needs change as we aged, learn what their personal caloric needs are and how to meet their nutritional needs using MyPlate. Fat, protein, carbohydrate, fiber, antioxidants, and phytochemicals will be discussed in detail.

Participants will learn how nutrient needs change as we age. They will discuss nutrients they need more of and about the foods that contain those nutrients.

In FastTrac® NewVenture TM you will look at all aspects of your proposed company, exploring the feasibility of your business concept and learning how to develop a viable business plan. Participants will learn about start-up issues and learn to address the competition, legal matters, marketing and financial management aspects. FastTrac® participants don't just learn about business, they work on their own business endeavors throughout the course. This program is fast-paced and energizing, using guest speakers and lots of group breakout activities. This is a five day workshop with materials and lunch provided. Workshop dates are June 23-27, 2014, times 9:00 am - 4:00 pm daily. Workshops are no cost to dislocated workers. The goal of the Advanced SSSH program is to increase on the fitness base acquired from SSSH by adding new and more challenging exercises. Advanced SSSH is designed to challenge older adults in new and different ways, to help avoid staleness and plateaus, and to improve activities of daily living. This program features exercises using resistance from body weight, hand weights, and ankle weights. It also features balance exercises, core exercises, low back exercises, and flexibility exercises.

Class members will warm-up, complete 2 sets of a series of 9-10 exercises and then cool down.

Relatives As Parents--Northland Grandfamilies (Session 23 of 23)

Description:

The Northland Grandfamilies program serves grandparents in Clay and Platte Counties who are raising their grandchildren. The program also serves aunts/uncles and other relatives who are raising children under the age of 18. The program seeks to raise awareness of the issues facing grandparents/aunts/uncles who are filling the parenting role. Advocacy, education and referral services are important aspects of the program. Support group meetings are scheduled twice a month, with guest speakers on topics of interest. The program is made possible by a partnership of the Clay County Extension Council, the Platte County Senior Fund and Clay County Senior Services.

The topic and speaker for this month's evening group meeting will be announced in late May.

Any grandparent who is raising grandchildren age 18 or younger is welcome to participate in Northland Grandfamilies. Christian County Master Gardener Training

The Master Gardener volunteer program began in the early 1970’s in response to the rapidly increasing interest in home gardening. The idea was to train knowledgeable garden volunteers to help University Extension staff deliver home gardening information to the public.

Today, the Master Gardener volunteer program is recognized nationally as a means for individuals to learn and to share horticultural knowledge with others.

The goal of the program is to involve the community in enhancing the local environment and economy through improved horticulture practices and education. Master Gardeners serve as representatives of the University of Missouri Extension. They may engage in a variety of interesting education activities that benefit the community.Master Gardeners develop their gardening and community potential while their efforts help others in the community.
