Description:

Participants of the Quicken Class will learn about setting up accounts, files, categories, tags, and using Quicken for farm record keeping.
They will also learn how how to record transactions in their checking registers, set up loan and assets accounts and reconcile their accounts.
Other information that they will learn about is running different reports, budgeting in Quicken, keeping track of livestock and marketing transactions and other Quicken resources

The Master Gardener program provides in depth horticultural training to individuals throughout Missouri who then volunteer their time applying what they have learned to help others in their communities to learn about gardening and environmental education. To become trained as a Master Gardener, an individual must attend a 30 hour classroom Core Course training. Then the Master Gardener trainee is required to give 30 hours of volunteer service back to their community in approved University of Missouri Extension activities.

Diabetes Self-Management (Session 11 of 12)

Description:

Diabetes Self-Management is a 6 week class for people living with type 2 Diabetes. This highly participatory class empowers participants to make changes and take steps to manage their condition through evidence-based practices. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration; 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance; 3) healthy eating 4) appropriate use of medication; and 5) working more effectively with health care providers. Participants will make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program.

Cooking Matters for Adults in Pettis County (Session 3 of 6)

Description:

Cooking Matters is a hands-on cooking class where objectives focus on important aspects of selecting and preparing nutritious, safe, and low-cost foods. Participants will also learn how to eat healthier, cook healthier, read nutrition labels, and skills for smart grocery shopping on a budget. Participants get to take home free groceries to prepare a recipe a second time at their home.

Participants will discuss a nutrition topic and complete 2-3 recipes. The class will sample their recipes and clean up dishes and cooking spaces.

During each session, a set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done, along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

Diabetes Self-Management Program - Clarity Healthcare June 2017 (Session 2 of 6)

Description:

This course is designed to help people who have diabetes or individuals who care for someone who has diabetes to become better self-managers of their condition. This program will consist of six sessions each lasting 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Participants will learn to plan healthful meals with balanced carbohydrates, learn more about the benefits of physical activity, discuss blood sugar highs and lows, and how to communicate more effectively with health professionals. Participants will receive a free book. The program will be held at Clarity Healthcare, 141 Communications Drive, Hannibal, MO 63401.

Session topic:

Participants will learn a formula for healthy eating, how to prevent low blood sugar and make an action plan.
